Massive Attack at Brixton Academy, February 2007

Was it a gig?

Massive Attack hold a special place in my memories and in some ways hold my memory in place. A soundtrack transports me back in time like nothing else. Blue Lines for me is the early days of a love affair (not only the world's greatest lovemaking album, but also the reason stereos were invented). Jump forward in time and Mezzanine saw MA selling out to the highest bidder in a frenzy of advertising. My love affair had ended had been rekindled and then finished again and was then in the throes of ugly sex with the ex. Dark times with a great soundtrack.

We bopped down to the Brixton Academy on Thursday 8th Feb 2007 to see the show.

What's happened to the future? It's too safe and too lame. Pseudo politics and thirty somethings. Smoking music and no smoking. Some clapping in between tunes gave the impression that the audience wasn't completely dead but were they enjoying it? Anybody's guess. Perhaps they were getting stoned and just not passing joints in my direction.

For what it's worth I enjoyed chatting with a good friend and later gave in to a shamanic dance. All in all I could have done this in my bedroom with the stereo turned up a bit louder than usual. In conclusion I had a good time but that was more down to me than anyone else. Call me old fashioned but I expect entertainment to be entertaining.

Old memories were triggered but the gig is all but forgotten.

The future is passive not massive.
